Leading with Lived Experience.
3 December 2024
International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) is an annual reflection to increase awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disability.
Celebrated on 3 December, the theme for 2024 was ‘amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’.
Leadership WA's LeadAbility Course has been championing this objective for a decade, and this year marks 10 years of the impact of the Course within the disability sector.
In recognition of IDPWD, we were delighted work with the team at Activ Foundation WA, to create this video featuring Activ staff member, Melanie, talking about her recent experience as a participant in the LeadAbility Course.
LeadAbility is a development opportunity aimed at growing the potential of people with disability, along wiith those who are caring, supporting and working within the sector, creating leaders who have the potential to generate change. Participants are given full Scholarships to participate.
Melanie talks about how her learning has positively impacted her everyday life, and the self-awareness and confidence she has gained from undertaking the Course.
LeadAbility Leadership Development Manager, Leanda Syme, reflects on the Course having been developed a decade ago in acknowledgement of the need to empower leaders within the sector, who have lived experience of a disability.
