Leadership WA Announces Next CEO

The Leadership WA Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Candy Choo as the next Chief Executive Officer of Leadership WA.

A dynamic and purpose-led leader, Candy has over 15 years of executive leadership experience across the government, not-for-profit and private sectors. She has held roles as a CEO, Board Chair and senior executive positions, and has led transformational change, developed future leaders and fostered inclusive and values-driven cultures.

Angie Paskevicius, Board Chair, congratulated Candy on her appointment to the highly sought position, “Candy is a well-respected and experienced leader, who will bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm and strong commercial acumen to the role.”

Candy’s expertise spans strategy development and implementation, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, innovation and change management. She has a background in organisational psychology and brings a thoughtful and people-centred approach to challenges. She is deeply committed to building thriving communities through strategic collaboration and empowering diverse voices.

Angie said, “The Board recognised Candy’s strengths, depth of cross-sector experience and passion for cultivating courageous leaders. She has a focus on building trust and delivering long-lasting and positive impact, all of which is in strong alignment with Leadership WA’s purpose and values.”

In her current role as CEO of Local Government Professionals WA, Candy has led the Association through a period of change and growth. She has overseen the organisation’s relocation to new premises; delivered improved member engagement; nurtured a thriving professional community; launched a range of transformative initiatives for the sector, advocating for and championing the voices of local government professionals; and fostered strong and enduring relationships with an extensive range of stakeholders.

In response to her appointment as the incoming CEO of Leadership WA, Candy said,

“As someone who’s deeply passionate about leadership and community, stepping into this role feels incredibly meaningful. I’ve seen firsthand the impact that courageous, values-driven leaders can have, and I’m excited to nurture that through Leadership WA. It will be a privilege to be part of an organisation that brings people together to learn, grow and lead with purpose.”

Guided by compassion, authenticity and gratitude in leadership, and in life, Candy is enthusiastic, appreciative and excited at the opportunity ahead. She reflected,

“As a migrant, who has been lucky to call WA home for the last 20 years – a place that has given me so much – having the opportunity to help shape WA through the incredible work at Leadership WA, is a responsibility I am fully committed to.”

Outside of work, Candy finds joy in homelife, curiosity, connection and creating spaces where people feel seen and supported, and able to be themselves.
